Kikinda is a town in Vojvodina where the Ice Age, contemporary art, and living nature coexist – completely naturally.
This tour:

1️⃣ Kikinda city center – Introductory city walk
The tour begins in the city center, where we:
- Briefly explore Kikinda’s history
- Discuss the unique development of towns in the Banat region
- Outline the background from which the city’s special features emerged
2️⃣ Ethnographic Museum and KIKA – The Mammoth That Stopped Time
One highlight of the tour is the Kikinda Ethnographic Museum, where we see:
- KIKA, the 63-year-old female mammoth discovered in 1996
- One of the most important paleontological finds in the Carpathian Basin
- A 17-minute documentary film showing the circumstances of the discovery
- Here we also discuss:
- Ice Age wildlife
- Human-nature relationships
- How a small-town discovery became an international sensation
3️⃣ Interactive workshops – fun for all ages
By prior arrangement, there is an opportunity for:

4️⃣ City Square – Where the Owls Winter
Kikinda is home to a world-unique natural phenomenon:
- Between November and March
- Ural owls can be observed even during the day
- In the city’s trees, on the main square, and its surroundings
This is the largest known wintering site for Ural owls in the world, which makes it:
- A special experience for nature lovers
- A true rarity for photographers
5️⃣ One of the Most Beautiful Green Streets in the World
During the walk, we also pass through a street that:
- Was named the 22nd most beautiful green street in the world in 2015
- Features huge American hackberry trees
- Has a unique microclimate
Here, the quiet, green side of the city is revealed.
6️⃣ City Hall – Civic History and Representation
We stop at the monumental City Hall (1891–1893), which:
- Was built in Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque style
- Is known for the famous “Attendite” inscription
- Displays the coat of arms of Kikinda
It is a symbol of the city’s administrative and civic past.
