Detailed itinerary

Day 1 | Belgrade and the Legend of the Drina River

Our journey toward Western Serbia begins with a drive via Belgrade.

Our first stop is Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, where a short sightseeing tour introduces us to the historic Kalemegdan Fortress. Here, we will enjoy sweeping views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. After a pleasant walk down the famous Knez Mihailova pedestrian street, we continue our journey toward the mountain regions.

The highlight of the afternoon will be a visit to the world-famous House on the Drina. This tiny wooden house, standing defiantly on a lone rock in the middle of the river, has become one of the most iconic symbols of Western Serbia over the years.

In the evening, we arrive in Zlatibor for hotel check-in and dinner.

Day 2 | The "Nostalgija" Train and Kusturica’s Fairytale World

After breakfast, we head to Mokra Gora, where we board the legendary Nostalgija vintage train on the Šargan Eight railway.

This historic narrow-gauge mountain railway is one of the most attractive train routes in Europe. It weaves its way up steep mountain slopes, cutting through tunnels and crossing dramatic viaducts. The ride promises jaw-dropping panoramic views and a distinct, cinematic atmosphere.

Following the train ride, we visit Drvengrad (also known as Kustendorf), conceptualized and built by world-renowned film director Emir Kusturica. The unique atmosphere of this entirely wooden ethno-village, complete with artistic details and a tranquil setting, offers the genuine feel of traveling back in time.

We return to Zlatibor in the evening, where you can opt for a traditional Serbian dinner featuring local specialties in an authentic Balkan atmosphere.

Day 3 | Waterfalls, Caves, and Living Traditions

Our third day is fully dedicated to nature and rich traditions.

First, we explore the spectacular Stopića Cave. With its massive limestone tubs (travertine terraces) and roaring underground waters, it stands as one of Serbia's most compelling natural attractions.

Next, we travel to the Gostilje Waterfall, where cascading mountain streams and a lush forest environment provide a peaceful, authentic nature experience.

The afternoon is reserved for Sirogojno. Through its famous open-air ethnographic museum featuring authentic traditional Zlatibor wooden houses, we gain an intimate insight into the daily life of a bygone Serbian village. The location is also world-famous for its handmade wool clothing, which remains an internationally recognized, unique artisanal handicraft to this day.

Return to Zlatibor for free time or an optional dinner.

Day 4 | Zlatibor Market and the Journey Home

Following breakfast, there is still a little time left to enjoy the lively morning atmosphere of Zlatibor.

The bustling local market offers an excellent opportunity to sample and purchase the region's most famous delicacies: homemade kajmak (clotted cream), smoked pršuta (prosciutto), mountain honey, local cheeses, and traditional fruit rakija (brandies).

Afterward, we begin our journey back to Hungary. As we travel, the majestic mountain ridges of Western Serbia, the turquoise waters of the Drina River, and the captivating spirit of the Balkans will stay with us for a long time to come.
